About the Opportunity
Staffordshire Police is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Forensic Coordinator to join our Forensics Department. This is a vital leadership role, supporting the delivery of high‑quality forensic services that contribute to effective investigations, safeguarding victims and witnesses, identifying offenders, and improving criminal justice outcomes.
As a Forensic Coordinator, you will oversee the day‑to‑day management of frontline forensic service delivery across our Forensic Investigation hubs and at crime scenes. You will coordinate both physical and digital forensic services, including mobile device examinations, and play a key role in shaping and delivering forensic strategy across complex and major crime investigations.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced forensic practitioner who is ready to step into a supervisory role or enhance their existing leadership capabilities within a fast‑paced, highly professional environment.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Provide daily workflow management, supervision, and support to local forensic services and scene‑based staff.
- Develop, brief, and adapt forensic strategies in collaboration with CSMs, Forensic Managers, and Investigators.
- Undertake Scientific Support Coordination for complex and major crime scenes, in line with the Murder Investigation Manual.
- Create evidence recovery plans and maintain FSR Regulators Codes and ISO 17020/17025‑compliant documentation, policies, and scene logs.
- Being committed to and complying with the ISO/IEC 17025, 17020 and the Forensic Science Regulator’s Codes of Practice and Conduct
- Produce factual reports, statements, and Streamlined Forensic Reports (SFRs) and present evidence in court as required.
- Monitor performance against service level agreements and ensure safe working practices at all times.
- Support the CPD, mentoring, and welfare of forensic staff.
- Diagnose and help resolve quality issues, supporting continuous improvement.
- Build strong relationships across policing partners, prosecution teams, and external stakeholders, including the Staffordshire Forensic Partnership.
- Maintain forensic assets, equipment, and vehicles to required standards.
- Deputise for Forensic Area Managers during periods of absence.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Competent Stage 3 Crime Scene Investigator.
- Successful completion of CSI Stage 1 and 2 training.
- Demonstrable experience delivering high‑quality forensic services, handling sensitive information, and making informed scientific decisions.
Essential Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong decision‑making ability grounded in scientific advice and professional judgement.
- Able to build and maintain effective working relationships across policing, partner agencies, and suppliers.
- Confident managing multiple deadlines, prioritising workloads, and working under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Competent in Windows‑based applications, including Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn new systems.
- Ability to work with distressing or sensitive material professionally and objectively.
- Experience motivating, developing, and leading others.
Desirable
- Experience of crime scene coordination.
- Experience handling confidential or sensitive information in line with Data Protection obligations.
