Force Review Officer – Serious Crime Division

This is a rare and highly influential opportunity to join Greater Manchester Police as a Force Review Officer within the Investigation and Safeguarding Review Unit, Serious Crime Division, based at Nexus House.

The Force Review Officer plays a critical role in supporting the force’s ability to deliver justice, maintain public confidence and ensure the highest standards of investigative integrity. This senior leadership role provides independent review, scrutiny and analytical capability across homicide and serious crime investigations, helping to identify organisational risk, improve performance and drive continuous improvement.

You will undertake reviews of complex and high-profile investigations, including historic and undetected cases, and support the force response to Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) referrals, serious case reviews, and national enquiries.

Working closely with senior leaders across GMP and partner agencies, you will provide expert advice, mentor Senior Investigating Officers during live incidents, and contribute to national learning and best practice in homicide and serious crime investigation.

About You

We are seeking a highly experienced, credible, and resilient individual with a strong background in serious and complex investigations.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience in the investigation and/or review of serious and organised crime, including homicide
  • The ability to critically assess complex investigations and identify risk, learning and opportunities for improvement
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills at senior level, including the confidence to challenge constructively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the production of detailed reports and presentation of findings
  • Experience of working with sensitive intelligence and maintaining the highest levels of integrity and confidentiality
  • A commitment to continuous improvement, professional standards, and organisational learning

Knowledge of national standards, including the Murder Investigation Manual, crime recording standards and covert investigation practices, is essential for success in this role.
