This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions. Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions. Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours. Division / Department - Estates and Facilities Management Grade - Surrey Police Grade G / Sussex Police Grade 10 Status - Full Time Contract Type - Permanent Salary Grade Range - Surrey Police £34,060 - £39,149 / Sussex Police £35,772 - £39,276 Working Hours - 37.0 Hours per Week Shift Allowance - No Politically Restricted - No Location - Sussex Police Headquarters, Lewes The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role & Key Responsibilities

From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference. It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe. In this role you will be responsible for the oversight, management and completion of tasks and inspections related to compliance, particularly fire compliance. The task will include fire door inspections, fire risk assessments, compartmentation assessments, fire extinguisher inspections and management, fire egress checks, fire alarm testing and liaison with external contractors to undertake tests and inspections outside of your direct responsibility or requiring specialist skills. You will also be responsible for record keeping to ensure associated compliance registers are up to date. You will report to the Fire Safety Manager, who will be directly responsible to the Police and Crime Commissioner (as Fire Competent Person) and Chief Operating Officer for all fire compliance related issues.

 

Skills & Experience

Essential: A recognised Fire Risk Assessor qualification or equivalent fire risk assessment qualification. You should be registered on the Fire Risk Assessor Register (NFRAR) at Intermediate level as a minimum, or in the process of achieving this. You should hold a relevant fire safety qualification such as Level 4 Certificate in Fire Safety, NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate, or equivalent. You should hold or be in the latter stages of completing an Ofqual-regulated qualification in fire door inspection, or equivalent recognised qualification. You should be a professional member of a recognised fire safety body, such as Member or Technician grade of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM) or Member grade of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), or equivalent recognised professional status. IFSM and IFE both have graded membership routes for fire professionals. Desirable: Registration on the National Fire Risk Assessor Register (NFRAR) at Advanced level and/or a higher grade professional membership of a recognised fire safety body, such as MIFSM / FIFSM or MIFireE, where appropriate to experience and competence. NAFDI membership. FDIS Certified Inspector status, or equivalent third-party certification under a recognised competent person scheme. FDIS states its certified inspectors are certified under its UKAS-accredited competent person certification scheme. Qualification or recognised training in passive fire protection, compartmentation or fire-stopping inspection. NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
