Hours/Contract: We are recruiting to two fixed-term positions. One post is available on a 12-month fixed term contract and the second post is available on a fixed term contract until 1 August 2027.
Successful candidates may be offered either contract depending on business requirements and individual circumstances. Contract length will be confirmed prior to appointment.

The role
Here at Northumbria Police, we think our region is amazing! This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our Forensics Department as a Fingerprint Officer.
Become a vital part in delivering a comprehensive fingerprint identification service for the force. Your expertise in identifying marks at crime scenes will play a crucial role in detecting offenders and reducing crime. Join us and make a real difference in public safety!
What you’ll do
- Fingerprint Analysis: Analyse, compare, and evaluate fingerprint details to provide evidential opinions and interpretations to officers. This will include attending crime scenes to provide advice and assistance to the crime scene investigators when recovering fingerprint evidence including obtaining prints from cadaver.
- Quality and Records Maintenance: Perform manual comparison, maintain quality standards, and manage records to enhance service delivery.
- Training and Development: Attend training / learning events to develop professionally and maintain personal competency in line with forensic accreditation requirements as well as support the development of trainees and operational officers, including those from Durham Constabulary, to strengthen forensic capabilities.
- Forensic Accreditation: Ensure compliance with ISO 17025 forensic accreditation through audits, witness tests, and maintaining competency.

What you’ll bring
- Qualification/Experience: Undergraduate qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. forensic science) or demonstrated vocational experience within a forensic field.
- Time Management: Able to plan and manager your time effectively, prioritising workloads to meet the customer needs and meet tight timescales.
- Calm Under Pressure: Utilise your organisational and administrative skills to work calmly and accurately even under pressure.
- Teamwork: Collaborate effectively as part of a team to achieve successful outcomes.
- Communication: You will have strong communication skills, able to communicate to a wide ranges of stakeholders and customers.

Terms of appointment
This is a fixed term role subject to a six-month probationary period.
