Financial Investigator - OP COSTELLO

Financial Investigator / Financial Intelligence Officer

Op Costello Team | Bedfordshire Police

Are you looking for an opportunity to make a tangible impact on Serious and Organised Crime? Whether you are already an experienced Financial Investigator or are looking to develop into a specialist financial investigation role, this position offers a unique opportunity to play a critical role in tackling organised criminality across Bedfordshire.

The Op Costello Team sits at the heart of Bedfordshire Police's response to Serious and Organised Crime and the professional enablers who support it. Bringing together intelligence and investigative expertise, the team works closely with local, regional and national partners to identify, disrupt and dismantle Organised Crime Groups (OCGs), targeting those responsible for causing the greatest harm to our communities.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and proactive individual to join our dynamic team. Applications are welcomed from NCA Part 8 Accredited Financial Investigators, Accredited Financial Intelligence Officers, or individuals with investigative, intelligence or financial enquiry experience who are willing to develop their skills and work towards professional accreditation.

This is an exciting opportunity to use financial intelligence and investigation techniques to follow the money, uncover hidden criminal assets, and support high-profile investigations into organised criminality. You will play a pivotal role in developing intelligence, identifying evidential opportunities, and obtaining financial material through Production Orders and Disclosure Orders under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Working closely with the ERSOU Proceeds of Crime Unit (POCU), you will contribute to the identification, restraint and confiscation of criminal assets, ensuring that offenders are not only brought to justice but are also deprived of the profits that fuel their criminal enterprises.

For candidates who are not yet accredited, this role provides a clear development pathway. You will receive support, mentoring and practical experience from experienced practitioners to help you achieve the relevant accreditation and develop specialist expertise in financial investigation and asset recovery.

This role offers significant variety and autonomy. Whilst taskings and enquiries will be allocated, we are looking for someone who demonstrates professional curiosity, initiative and an investigative mindset. You will be encouraged to identify opportunities, pursue financial lines of enquiry independently, and confidently provide recommendations to Officers in the Case and Supervisors to help shape investigative strategies and maximise evidential opportunities.

What makes this role unique?

  • Play a key role in disrupting and dismantling Organised Crime Groups.
  • Develop and utilise specialist financial investigation skills.
  • Work alongside experienced investigators, intelligence professionals and regional partners.
  • Gain exposure to complex and high-profile investigations.
  • Contribute directly to the restraint, recovery and confiscation of criminal assets.
  • Opportunity to work towards Financial Investigator accreditation with support from experienced practitioners.
  • Ongoing professional development and exposure to specialist financial investigation techniques.
  • Make a direct contribution to protecting communities and reducing the harm caused by serious and organised crime.

If you are motivated by complex investigations, enjoy problem-solving, and want to target the financial infrastructure that enables serious and organised crime, we would welcome your application.

Help us follow the money, disrupt criminal networks and make Bedfordshire a safer place.
