The role

This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our Business Services Department as an Evidential Property Administrator. 

Make a real difference behind the scenes of frontline policing. As an Evidential Property Administrator, you'll provide vital administrative support, ensuring evidential property is securely stored, accurately recorded, and lawfully returned or disposed of. Your work will help maintain the integrity of evidence and support operational policing across Northumbria.

This is a varied and rewarding role combining administration, customer service, and business support. Working with officers, staff and external partners, you'll manage property throughout its lifecycle, maintain accurate records, support business planning and operational activity, and ensure compliance with legislation, policy and procedure.

What you’ll do 

  • Receiving, recording and securely storing property and evidence to make sure it can be easily located when needed.
  •  Carrying out daily checks of property held in transit locations and moving items to secure storage, reporting any missing items straight away.
  • Keeping accurate records and providing administrative support, including responding to enquiries from officers, staff and members of the public.
  • Making decisions about when and how property should be returned, retained or disposed of, following legislation, Force policies and health and safety requirements.
  • Arranging the sale of suitable property through auction and maintaining the records and paperwork associated with the process.
  • Managing high-risk and high-value items such as drugs, firearms, cash and hazardous materials, while helping return lost property to its rightful owners whenever possible.
  • Handle, record, store and arrange the disposal of seized drugs in line with legislation, Force procedures and health and safety guidelines.
  • Safely retrieve and store property items within a warehouse environment, including using ladders to access items held at height.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous waste in accordance with relevant legislation, safety procedures and best practice, while helping to reunite lost property with its rightful owners wherever possible.

Terms of appointment 

This is a permanent role subject to a six-month probationary period.
