Operation Beaconport is a national UK policing initiative focused on reviewing and reinvestigating closed cases of child sexual exploitation and abuse, particularly those involving grooming gangs. Its purpose is to ensure justice for victims and to identify and address any investigative failures to inform future learning.
The operation was launched following a review by Baroness Casey, which identified significant failures in the handling of group-based child sexual exploitation cases by law enforcement. Beaconport is led by the National Crime Agency and involves collaboration with police forces across England and Wales. It focuses on cases closed without prosecution between 1 January 2010 and 31 March 2025.
The review of NFA cases is the first of three strands of activity under Operation Beaconport. In parallel, officers will develop a new national operating model for investigating group-based child sexual exploitation and abuse, using serious and organised crime methodologies. Improved multi-agency data sharing and more coordinated efforts to track and disrupt offenders will also be developed to deliver better outcomes for victims and survivors.
Everyone at BCH takes a personal responsibility to create an inclusive environment where police officers and police staff respect each other. Feel valued for their differences and can be themselves. We are committed to making work place adjustments when needed, so that everyone feels welcome and can flourish.
