PREVENT are responsible for ensuring anyone in the public, police or partners can make referrals into the Prevent programme of persons they feel worried are at risk of becoming radicalised into a terrorist ideology. Once referred in, PREVENT ensure all relevant processes are followed to enable those persons to be risk assessed and guided into prevention schemes working closely with statutory partners. The objective is to divert persons from becoming radicalised before they do, and to safeguard and protect vulnerable persons who are being radicalised. Since 2024, Prevent has undergone significant challenges in terms of volume and risk, a strong leadership team is required to lead on this key pillar of the CONTEST strategy. The role will require excellent people skills, an ability to chair and lead on partnership and safeguarding meetings and make strong risk based decisions.
Whilst the Inspector role will oversee the Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex county areas and there is a need to maintain accessibility and visibility with teams, there is no requirement for officers to be drawn from those specific forces alone, and agile and wider working arrangements can be explored.
