The Role & Key Responsibilities

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our in-house Estates Maintenance Team, helping to maintain and support critical infrastructure across the Sussex Police Estate.

In this varied and hands-on role, you will carry out electrical repairs, planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, and minor installation works on single and three-phase electrical systems and associated equipment. You will play a key role in diagnosing faults, responding promptly to breakdowns, and ensuring that electrical systems remain safe, compliant, and fully operational.

As part of the Estates Maintenance Team, you will be responsible for delivering both planned preventative maintenance and reactive works, ensuring equipment is serviced, maintained, tested, and calibrated in accordance with relevant legislation, industry standards, and organisational policies and procedures. Your expertise will contribute to the reliable operation of police facilities that support frontline and operational policing.

Customer service is central to this role. You will regularly liaise with internal stakeholders to understand reported faults, provide technical advice, and keep customers informed on progress and outcomes. Strong communication skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to build effective working relationships are therefore essential.

Location and Hours

This role is based at Hammonds Drive Patrol Centre, Eastbourne, working Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00, with a 30-minute lunch break.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a professional in-house team where your technical skills will directly support the delivery of vital policing services across Sussex.

Skills & Experience
  • NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation
  • Electrical of Mechanical- City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent
  • City & Guilds 18th Edition (We will consider 17th edition)
  • Inspection and Testing 2391/2 or equivalent
  • AM2
  • Extensive experience working within commercial building environments.
  • Proven ability to install, repair, inspect, test, and maintain electrical installations safely and efficiently.
  • Strong understanding of current electrical regulations, standards, and best practice.
  • Experience completing and certifying electrical works, including Electrical Installation Certificates, Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs), and Minor Works Certificates.
  • Ability to diagnose faults and implement effective solutions with minimal disruption to building operations
  • Excellent technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to a wide range of stakeholders, including customers, colleagues, and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.
  • Effective team player with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and capable of working independently when required
  • Full current UK driving licence.
  • Commitment to maintaining health and safety standards and delivering excellent customer service
