Salary: The starting salary is £63,409, which includes allowances totalling £3,009.

The salary is broken down as £60,400 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £65,886. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Job Summary 

CTP’s national digital capability network provides investigative services in Communications Data Exploitation, Open-Source Exploitation, Digital Media Exploitation, Lawful Intercept and Digital Biometrics. This role is based within the Technical Innovation and Development team (TIDE) within the National Digital Exploitation Service (NDES) (hosted by the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and located within CTP London Command).  

Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) relies on a diverse range of technologies to support critical national security operations. Working in TIDE, you will play a key role in efficiently and responsively making world-leading digital tools and capabilities available to CTP's operational teams. You will enable the use of digital technologies to deny terrorists, and other criminals investigated by our network, their ability to operate. 

Band M As a Senior Developer or Senior DevSecOps Engineer in TIDE you will manage a team of developers to design, build, secure and/or maintain new capabilities in support of CTP's digital collection and exploitation activity. You will advance capability development and cloud delivery via CTP’s digital capability including working across on-premises infrastructure as well as cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure. You will enable efficient deployment of both in-house and commercial applications and support the migration of on-premises solutions to cloud enabled environments. Your team will be responsible for enabling efficient and safe access to digital capability tooling, including the continuous improvement of the digital capability delivery platform, development and test environments. 

This role is aligned to the Senior DevOps Engineer set out within the Digital and Data Profession Capability Framework (DDAT). 

At this role level, you will: 

  • transform technical requirements into an effective DevOps toolchain to enable product delivery 
  • provide coaching and mentoring to more junior colleagues 
  • ensure that deployment strategies for products are repeatable, scalable and highly available 
  • have deep technical knowledge, providing support to delivery teams and solving complex problems 
  •  work on a variety of platforms and tools so being a lifelong learner with the ability to quickly learn technical skills are key to your success. 

 The ideal candidate will have: 

  • A solid background in software engineering or platform infrastructure support.  
  • Have a proven track record in creating and maintaining DevOps or similar pipelines. 

The Senior DevOps Engineer will also help plan projects and be involved in project management decisions as part of an agile service delivery team. The DevOps team is a key component of CTPs Digital strategy which operational activities will depend upon. 

Key Tasks 

 As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will: 

  • Take a leading role in the development and operation of the DevOps pipeline: 
  • Testing and deploying product updates. 
  • Identifying and resolving issues. 
  • Implementing integrations. 
  • Improving automation and monitoring. 
  • Being the technical product owner for some parts of the pipeline. 
  • Provide project oversight to ensure standards are met. 
  • Work with developers and engineers to ensure that software development follows established processes and works as intended. 
  • Ensure personal and team workload is effectively managed, prioritised and issues are escalated to line management as necessary.  
  • Ensure adherence to required polices, standards, controls and best practice. 
  • Create, maintain and review technical documentation to ensure all services are maintained and knowledge is shared. 
  • Proactively monitor DevOps environments to help prevent issues arising. 
  • Proactively drive continuous improvement across the DevOps pipeline. 
  • Assist in mentoring and developing the team. 
  • Deputise for the Lead DevOps Engineer as required. 

This role does not attract Shift Disturbance Allowance. If you are currently in a shift-working role, SDA should cease upon appointment to this job.

Vetting
