The London Proactive Economic Crime Team (PECT) is seeking to recruit a substantive Detective Sergeant.

The PECT team covers the London region and holds a central and pivotal role within the national PECT landscape. The team is based at Holborn Police Station as part of a collaboration between the City of London Police and the Metropolitan Police Service, consisting of 2 Detective Inspectors, 4 Detective Sergeants and 28 Police Constables/Detective Constables.

You will be joining one of the leading teams nationally, assisting with the targeting of organised crime groups (OCGs) committing fraud across London.

We work in partnership with other forces and partner organisations, including government agencies and UK banking institutions. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a proactive environment, using covert tactics and conventional investigation methods to target organised crime and protect vulnerable victims.

The PECT primarily focuses on the following strands of work:

  • Courier fraud
  • Romance fraud
  • Investment fraud
  • Emerging threats
  • National intensification operations

The role of the Proactive Economic Crime Team includes:

  • Conducting proactive operations against organised crime groups to secure successful prosecutions and convictions
  • Liaising with partners both internally and externally to achieve operational objectives
  • Working in partnership with PECT teams nationally through multi-agency national intensification operations

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to investigate crimes from intelligence development through to completion, with the opportunity to work upstream targeting key organised crime group members. You will also work on national intensification operations.

You will be supported with the required training and courses to enable you to progress within the role.

Essential Criteria:

The post holder must have:

  • PIP 2 accredited substantive Detective Sergeant
  • Experience in the investigation of serious crime and/or fraud
  • A valid UK driving licence
  • In-date PPST/ELS
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Highly organised, capable of prioritising and managing multiple demands within a busy environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to brief colleagues and senior management
  • Motivated to work effectively within and manage a multi-disciplined team, as well as independently using initiative
  • Ability to problem solve when faced with challenging situations
  • Hold current MV clearance or be willing to undergo MV with progression to DV

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous experience in covert operations or a similar field
  • Proven experience in proactive and/or covert investigations
  • Advanced or response driving qualification
  • Surveillance trained
