About the Opportunity
We are looking for a Designing Out Crime Officer to join our Problem Solving and Partnerships team. This is a key role focused on preventing crime by shaping safer environments across North Staffordshire.
You will provide expert advice on crime prevention through environmental design. Working with planners, developers and partner agencies, you will help ensure new and existing developments are designed to reduce crime, anti-social behaviour and the fear of crime.
This role supports delivery of the Staffordshire Police Policing Plan, with a strong focus on prevention, early intervention and effective partnership working.
What you will do
- Review planning applications and provide clear crime prevention advice
- Work with developers, architects and local authorities to influence safer design
- Carry out site visits and risk assessments, producing professional reports
- Represent the force at planning meetings and consultations
- Promote Secured by Design and other security standards
- Deliver training and guidance to officers, partners and community groups
- Work closely with partner agencies to reduce crime and improve safety
- Use local crime data and trends to inform your work
You will also support wider prevention activity, including site assessments linked to priority locations and safeguarding-related referrals.
What we are looking for
We encourage applications from fully qualified Designing Out Crime professionals. We will also consider candidates with relevant experience who are willing to work towards the required qualification.
You will have:
- Experience or knowledge of crime prevention, planning, environmental design, or a related field
- The ability to read and interpret plans and technical documents
- Strong communication and influencing skills
- Experience writing clear, professional reports
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload
Qualifications:
- Ideally a Level 4 Certificate in Crime Prevention (or equivalent), or
- Willingness to work towards this qualification
Key requirements
- Full UK driving licence
- Access to a vehicle with business insurance
- Ability to travel across Staffordshire
