The Opportunity
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented individual to join our Professional Standards Department. Reporting to the Force Vetting Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of North Yorkshire Police by managing and progressing vetting processes in line with statutory responsibilities and authorised professional practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Force Vetting Manager in developing and implementing vetting policies, procedures, and processes.
- Review and assess vetting applications (internal and external) to determine appropriate clearance levels.
- Conduct research using police systems and external sources to inform vetting decisions.
- Make proportionate, evidence-based decisions in line with legislation and guidance, including managing reviews and appeals.
- Lead and participate in vetting interviews as required.
- Maintain accurate vetting records in compliance with MOPI standards.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient recruitment and retention processes.
- Supervise a team of vetting researchers, managing workloads, flexi-time, annual leave, and performance.
- Provide advice, training, and guidance on vetting requirements across the organisation.
- Ensure confidentiality and sensitivity at all times.
What We’re Looking For
- NVQ Level 4 in Administration/Customer Care or equivalent experience.
- Proven ability to make sound, evidence-based decisions.
- Strong communication skills and previous supervisory experience in a busy office environment.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and able to prioritise under pressure.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Intermediate IT skills, including Microsoft Office and familiarity with Niche, PNC, and PND.
Desirable
- Experience working with police intelligence or sensitive information.
- Previous experience within vetting processes.
