About the Opportunity

Applications are invited for the role of Deputy Chief Taser Instructor (DCTI) within the regional collaboration between Staffordshire Police and West Mercia Police.
Applicants must be a current, competent Taser Instructor (TI) AND hold a recognised teaching qualification (AET/TEP or equivalent). It is desirable that applicants hold the Taser Lead Instructor (TLI) qualification or be willing to obtain this upon appointment.


Base location: Regional Training Centre, Cosford

Travel requirements: The role involves travel across both Forces and the wider region; therefore, a full UK driving licence is essential.

Role Overview

The Deputy Chief Taser Instructor will support the Chief Taser Instructor in the leadership, coordination, and assurance of Taser training across both Forces.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Supporting the development and delivery of a regional Taser training plan that provides sufficient STO training capacity for each Force, aligned to College of Policing guidance.

Contributing to the design, review, and quality assurance of Conducted Energy Device (Taser) training packages, in accordance with CEDSTRA requirements and the regional Training Design SOP.

Evaluating and improving training processes, identifying opportunities for innovation and ensuring continuous improvement.

Promoting and maintaining safe systems of work within all Taser training environments.

Assume the responsibilities of the Chief Taser Instructor during periods of absence lasting four weeks or more.
All post-holders are expected to demonstrate and uphold the values, ethics, and professional behaviours outlined in the Code of Ethics and the Competency and Values Framework (CVF).
Essential Criteria

Qualified, competent, and current Taser Instructor (TI)

Recognised teaching qualification (AET / TEP or equivalent)

Full UK driving licence


Desirable Criteria

Taser Lead Instructor (TLI) qualification (or willingness to obtain upon appointment)

NVQ Level 2 in Health & Safety (e.g. IOSH) (or willingness to obtain upon appointment)
