DBS Vetting Officer

The principal responsibility of the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Vetting Officer is to support the protection of children and vulnerable adults by carrying out enquiries on behalf of the Disclosure & Barring Service into the background of persons wishing to work with such groups. 

In particular to:

  • Undertake interrogation of a number of databases and other sources of information and intelligence in response to requests from DBS
  • Using the national Quality Assurance Framework and additional Force mechanisms, complete the process of checking to determine the suitability of the individual to undertake work with the identified vulnerable groups and, where appropriate, flagging any concerns in line with Force policy and working practices.
  • To deal with queries from DBS applicants, Officers and staff, to provide guidance as appropriate.

This list of duties is not restrictive or exhaustive and the post-holder may be required to carry out duties from time to time that are either commensurate with/or lower than the grade of the post.  In some posts this might include the ad-hoc provision of guidance and informal training of new colleagues.
