Dangerous Dog Case Officer

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient administrator to support our Force Dog Legislation Officer (DLO) team. This role plays a vital part in managing dangerous dog cases, supporting investigations, maintaining accurate records, and preparing cases for court, all while keeping public safety and animal welfare at the forefront.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will provide comprehensive administrative support across a wide range of dog legislation activities. This includes monitoring dangerous dog incidents on force systems, acting as a key point of contact for internal teams and external agencies, managing Freedom of Information requests, preparing court files, and supporting officers at court hearings. You’ll also manage intelligence and specialist accounts, liaise with kennels, vets, and experts, and oversee the administration relating to seized dogs, including welfare checks, records, and invoices.

Why This Role Matters

This role is essential to ensuring dangerous dog legislation is applied effectively, cases are progressed efficiently, and legal obligations are met. Your work directly contributes to public safety, supports the criminal justice process, and helps ensure ethical and lawful decision-making in the best interests of both the public and dog welfare.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone highly organised, professional, and able to handle sensitive and sometimes distressing material with compassion and confidentiality. You’ll be confident using police IT systems, managing complex records, and working with a range of stakeholders. Resilience is key, as the role can involve exposure to unpleasant images, environments, and decision-making relating to serious injuries and, in some cases, the euthanasia of dogs.

Internal candidates may be appointed to this role on a secondment basis, subject to the support of their Head of Department. If a secondment is not supported, it will be offered as a fixed-term contract with no substantive post to return to at the end of the term.
