Job Title: Curriculum Lead

Salary: The starting salary is £62,310, which includes allowances totalling £3,009 allowance.

The salary is broken down as £59,301 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £72,254. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Position Summary

The Curriculum Lead will provide strategic direction and expert leadership in the programme design, development, and continual improvement of the Metropolitan Police Service's learning curriculums. Overseeing mulitple academies, they will ensure all learning programmes are coherent, high‑quality, and aligned with organisational priorities and capability needs. The role is responsible for establishing consistent curriculum standards, driving innovation in programme design, and ensuring that content across all modalities (face‑to‑face, digital, blended, and experiential) is evidence‑based, inclusive, and impactful. Working collaboratively with internal senior stakeholders (e.g. Borough Command Units (BCUs), Met Learning & Development (L&D)), external stakeholders (e.g. education providers, subject matter experts, vendors, and clients), and the wider Learning & Development team, the Curriculum Lead will shape a learning portfolio that supports workforce performance, future skills, and long‑term organisational success.

Duties

  • Develop and maintain a long‑term curriculum roadmap that anticipates future skills demands, operational priorities, legislative changes, and workforce development requirements.
  • Establish and oversee a curriculum quality assurance framework to ensure consistency, rigour, and continuous improvement across all programmes and delivery pathways.
  • Provide strategic insight and recommendations to senior leadership on curriculum gaps, risks, innovations, and opportunities.
  • Ensure programmes integrate authentic assessments, workplace-based learning opportunities, and scenario‑based practice relevant to police environments.
  • Drive innovation through exploration of new pedagogies, simulation technologies, and experiential learning methods
  • Act as the senior curriculum specialist, working closely with Borough Command Units (BCUs), Met L&D, leadership teams, and operational policing stakeholders to understand workforce needs and performance challenges.
  • Build strong partnerships with external education providers (e.g., universities, awarding bodies, apprenticeship partners) to influence curriculum development, academic integrity, and accreditation requirements.
  • Ensure curricula comply with all regulatory requirements, including College of Policing standards, apprenticeship specifications, and internal MPS policies.
  • Oversee curriculum review cycles, version control processes, and documentation standards to maintain an audit‑ready portfolio of learning programmes.
  • Provide expert advice on curriculum risks and implement mitigation strategies to maintain the integrity and continuity of learning.
  • Establish clear expectations, roles, and standards for curriculum teams to ensure consistency and high performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement cycles by integrating insights from operational policing, academic research, learner feedback, and quality assurance activity.
