About the team

Report Fraud sits within the City of London Police which is the National policing lead for economic crime.

Report Fraud receives all the fraud and cybercrime across England and Wales. Millions of reports of fraud and cybercrime are used by Report Fraud to identify serial offenders, organised crime groups and find emerging crime types.

About the role

Crime Reviewers are responsible for assessing and analysing fraud and cybercrime reports submitted by the public and third parties. Data‑matching techniques are used to identify links between reports from different parts of the country. Initial investigative steps are undertaken to identify the individuals or organised groups responsible for the offending. Where appropriate, reports are then disseminated to local police forces or relevant law enforcement agencies to support further investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial evaluation of referrals to ensure that the appropriate criteria have been met.
  • Identify potential vulnerable victims and make referrals to law enforcement in view of safeguarding.
  • Assess fraud and cybercrime in accordance with Home Office Counting Rules and National Crime Recording Standards
  • Gather all required information to support an informed assessment/referral process supported by clear rationale.
  • Ulitlise a range of secondary checks to establish who committed the fraud or cybercrime.
  • Support a customer focussed service by building and maintaining effective relationships with victims and witnesses.
  • Assess reports or relevant information and determine the appropriate dissemination route.

Requirements

Your application will be scored against the criteria listed below for shortlisting. Please give examples and evidence your ability, knowledge and experience against the points below in your application.

In this role, you will be:

  • Excellent public facing skills to enable effective information gathering and victim support and assistance.
  • Good decision-making skills and the ability to communicate decisions to stakeholder groups and effectively manage their expectations.
  • A knowledge and understanding of the Home Office Crime Recording Standards.
  • Knowledge of policy and procedure in crime recording, investigation case management and intelligence.
  • A proven investigative background and a good knowledge of investigation practices and processes.

This vacancy is open only to those who have the right to work in the UK. Also, due to this role requiring MV/SC level vetting, you need to have continuously resided in the UK for the last 5 years. This residency needs to be in the immediate 5 years prior to this application. If you do not meet this requirement, you are not eligible to apply for the role, due to nature of the vetting checks needed.

As part of the initial application process, you will be asked to evidence how your experience, skills, and knowledge align with the points listed above in the ‘Requirements Section.’

The application and interview will be tested under Level 1 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework.

Applicants who fail to address the skills/knowledge/experience of the job description will not be considered.
