The North East Regional Organised Crime Unit is one of nine Regional Organised Crime Units (“ROCU”) in England and Wales who lead the regional response to tackling serious and organised crime whilst supporting local and national delivery. The ROCU network continues to expand and Home Office funding through police officer uplift and increased police staff capacity presents exciting opportunities to further enhance service delivery and positively impact on our partners and the public. The Home Office Serious and Organised Crime Strategy defines ROCU as leading the regional fight against Serious and Organised Crime and NEROCU have a critical role in leading, connecting and co-ordinating delivery across our region in all four P’s of the strategy; Pursue – prosecuting and disrupting people engaged in serious and organised criminality. Prevent – preventing people from engaging in serious and organised criminality. Protect – increasing protection against organised crime. Prepare – reducing the impact of serious and organised crime where it takes place. NEROCU comprises of specialist teams delivering across intelligence, operations, investigations, cyber, economic, technical and digital capabilities.   

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a County Lines Regional Coordinator to join the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU). Working as part of the National County Lines Coordination Centre (NCLCC) network, you will play a key role in coordinating and enhancing the regional response to county lines criminality, exploitation and organised crime.

You will work closely with police forces, regional and national partners, the National Crime Agency, and safeguarding agencies to develop and drive activity across the Pursue, Prevent, Protect and Prepare strands of the Serious and Organised Crime Strategy. As the regional point of contact for county lines activity, you will support investigations, identify opportunities to disrupt criminal networks, improve intelligence sharing and help safeguard those at risk of exploitation.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Coordinate and improve the law enforcement response to county lines activity across the region.
  • Provide tactical advice and support to Senior Investigating Officers, investigators and partner agencies.
  • Work collaboratively with police forces and national partners to identify, develop and progress operational opportunities.
  • Enhance intelligence and information sharing to develop a comprehensive understanding of the county lines threat.
  • Convene and lead multi-agency meetings to coordinate activity and improve partnership responses.
  • Monitor and support regional disruption activity, ensuring opportunities across the 4P framework are maximised.
  • Coordinate regional contributions to national county lines initiatives and intensification periods.
  • Support analytical activity, identify emerging trends and promote evidence-based responses to criminal exploitation.
  • Deliver training, awareness sessions and professional development opportunities to officers, staff and partners.
  • Represent NEROCU at local, regional and national meetings, forums and working groups.  The post holder will be expected to travel across the NE region on a regular basis, and nationally as required.  Therefore, possession of a full UK driving licence is an essential requirement for this role.

What you’ll bring:

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of investigating, managing or coordinating serious and organised crime, safeguarding, vulnerability or other complex criminal investigations.
  • Experience of working effectively with partner agencies and utilising shared intelligence, information and data.
  • The ability to assess, manage and communicate threat, harm and risk.
  • A strong understanding of intelligence processes, including evaluation, grading, dissemination and application of intelligence products.
  • Knowledge of the county lines threat, criminal exploitation, vulnerability and organised criminality, or experience gained within a related business area.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and report writing skills.
  • The ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders and work collaboratively across organisational boundaries.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and prioritise competing demands.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working with covert or sensitive tactics within serious and organised crime investigations or related operational environments.

Terms of appointment  

This is a fixed term role subject to a six-month probationary period.
