The principal responsibility of the Communications Data Investigator is to perform the lawful acquisition and disclosure of all Communications Data for Devon & Cornwall Police and on behalf of the South West Region, acting as an accredited Communication Data Investigator (Single Point of Contact Officer) between the Force and telecoms/postal operators in acquiring data under IPA through consensual agreement from the Global Communications Industry.
In particular to:
- Managing the process for the lawful application, retrieval and storage of all communications data including providing guidance and advice to police officers and staff on the process for applying for communications data and how it can assist within investigations.
- Ensuring the security, integrity and continuity of all communications data obtained. Highlighting and reporting on any errors or issues found.
- Providing Grade 1 life at immediate risk support for the Force and the South West Region out of hours (16:00 – 0800 weekdays + Sat/Sun and all Bank Holidays). This involves dealing with investigations into high-risk individuals, missing persons, kidnap/extortion, firearms incidents and other high-risk investigations.
- Producing statements, exhibit data and presents evidence in court and at other hearings. Be able to present factual evidence and explanation of technical jargon and topics in an unbiased manner to enable the Court to understand communications data.

Whilst we invite applications from individuals wishing to work part-time please be advised that these roles would still require rostered nights and weekends to be worked in accordance with operational requirements of running a 24/7 service.
