About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cleaning Services Supervisor to join our Corporate Assets team. This is a key role responsible for the day‑to‑day supervision of Cleaning Services Operatives and for supporting the Cleaning Services Manager in delivering a safe, efficient, and high‑quality cleaning service across the Merseyside Police estate.
Working across multiple sites, you will ensure that cleaning standards are consistently met, staff are effectively supported, and operational requirements are delivered to the highest professional standard.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the daily management and coordination of Cleaning Services Operatives.
Support the Cleaning Services Manager with operational oversight and service delivery.
Maintain compliance with Health & Safety legislation, service level agreements, and performance targets.
Oversee stock control, ordering, and budget‑aligned storage management across multiple locations.
Ensure continuity of payroll processes for cleaning staff in the absence of the Cleaning Services Manager.
Uphold strict safety and security protocols across the Merseyside Police estate.
Conduct risk assessments in line with the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
Implement and monitor frequency‑based and output‑based cleaning specifications to drive continuous improvement.
Provide clear communication and professional engagement with staff at all levels, including PCC, Chief Officers, and senior leadership.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required
Minimum three years’ supervisory or management experience within the cleaning industry, with specialist knowledge of modern cleaning methods and techniques.
Experience managing cleaning operations across multi‑site environments.
Strong understanding of service level agreements, performance indicators, and compliance requirements.
Proven ability to manage stock control, ordering processes, and budget considerations.
Competent working knowledge of Agency (Payroll) Systems and staff terms and conditions.
In‑depth understanding of the Merseyside Police estate, including specialist departmental needs and security protocols.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders.
Holds NVQ Level 2 in Cleaning Building Interiors.
Knowledge of BICSc procedures, particularly Infection Control and Cross‑Contamination.
Holds IOSH Managing Safely accreditation.
Skilled in conducting risk assessments and promoting safe working practices.
Strong organisational and supervisory abilities, with flexibility to lead and collaborate within a large team.
Significant experience with modern cleaning techniques and maintenance of varied floor coverings.
Demonstrates motivation, resilience, adaptability, and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
Must hold a clean driving licence and have access to a reliable, business‑insured vehicle.
Working knowledge of force systems including electronic expenses, payroll, PDRs, and absence recording, with the ability to train and support staff.
