Chief Executive
Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire
Salary: Grade A8ii (scale starting at £89,247 plus car allowance)
Location: Welwyn Garden City
The Police & Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire is seeking a delivery focused Chief Executive to help drive forward his work. The PCC is responsible for securing an effective and efficient police force, setting the Police & Crime Plan and budget/precept, holding the police to account and being the public’s voice in policing.
To be successful, you will need to be strategically influential, politically astute, collaborative and understand the uncertain policing governance landscape. You will be focused on supporting the Commissioner to get things done and improve outcomes for the people of Hertfordshire.
You will support the Commissioner in fulfilling his strategic vision, statutory duties and engagement with stakeholders and the public. You will have experience of motivating, enthusing and creating organisational energy to help teams flourish to deliver. And you will understand how to both support scrutiny of, and maintain collaborative relationships with, Hertfordshire Constabulary, currently rated the best performing police force by the public in the Crime Survey of England & Wales.
Exposure to operating and innovating in similar settings will be important, as will the personal integrity and skills required to support the Commissioner to maintain statutory compliance and be effective in an uncertain national policy environment.
Applicants should be aware that it is the Government’s stated policy that Police & Crime Commissioners and their offices will be abolished in May 2028. This remains subject to legislation and the precise successor arrangements for police governance in Hertfordshire are currently unclear.
The post is subject to police vetting, is politically restricted and subject to a confirmation hearing by the Police & Crime Panel.
