Case Progression Assistants are based in the CMU (Case Management Unit) and provide an effective administration service that underpins the prosecution case file creation, collation and evaluation process. They provide officers and staff members with advice to address case file deficiencies; ensure CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) receive case material in a timely manner; and share best practice with police colleagues across the force area.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive and highly motivated person to support our daily remand court case review process; prepare postal charges on behalf of officers and police staff members; and support the flow of information between Crown Prosecutors and investigation officers. The successful candidate will also provide administrative support to colleagues working within His Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service and the wider Justice system.
The post holder must be able to dynamically assess, prioritise and process their workloads while subject to the pressure of time-critical court deadlines. The post holder will also be required to access and utilise a variety of computer systems and applications to discharge their duties.
Successful candidates will be required to work from their base station and may very occasionally be asked to work from other locations across the local policing area. A laptop will be provided to enable agile working.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review the quality of Digital Remand files, Anticipated Guilty Plea cases and Anticipated Not Guilty Plea matters
- Update and maintain case file allocation spread-sheets
- Ensure cases are correctly entered onto the court computer system (i.e. Common Platform)
- Review and allocate Case Action Plans
- Conduct PNC checks and upload previous convictions into the police case file application (i.e. Connect)
- Review and dispatch Postal Charge Requisitions
Essential Skills:
- The post holder should be resilient, flexible and adaptable to change

- Possess the ability to develop strong and positive working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and service users
- Possess influencing and decision-making skills
- Be IT literate (including the use of MS Office products and experience using bespoke computer systems)
- Able to problem solve within a team environment
Desirable Skills:
- Previous experience in the use of operational policing computer applications and communication systems such as CONNECT, PNC and COMMON PLATFORM would be advantageous.

Hours/Location: The hours of work are 36.5 hours per week at times agreed by management. The Case Management Unit is open between 07:00 – 17:00 hours from Monday to Thursday and 07:00 - 16:00 on Friday. Duties may vary according to local operational needs. The unit is scheduled to move from Wednesfield police station to Wolverhampton Central police station on a date to be confirmed in 2027.
