Job Title: Business Support Officer

Salary: The starting salary is £40,519, which includes allowances totalling £3,009.

The salary is broken down as £37,510 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £40,141.  Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: 50 Broadway, London, with flexibility to work remotely. NPCC encourages applications from candidates living across the UK. 

Contract – Fixed Term Contract until 31/03/2028 (with the potential for further extension subject to funding and performance).

 CHIEF SCIENTIFIC ADVISOR TEAM 

As articulated in the NPCC Strategic Plan 2021-2025, science, technology, analysis and research (STAR) is central to our delivery of a world-class police service. The Office of the Police Chief Scientific Adviser (OPCSA) sits at the heart of this ambition. OPCSA delivers independent and timely scientific and technology advice to NPCC members on strategic, policy and operational issues. It drives the growth of STAR by encouraging an integrated and ambitious set of activities across NPCC portfolios. Additionally, it fosters collaboration across Whitehall and with the wider science community, both nationally and internationally. The CSA supports the whole policing sector and works closely with the College of Policing, the National Crime Agency, the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services, individual constabularies and government departments.   

THE ROLE 

The Business Support Officer is responsible for providing business and secretariat support to the Office of the Police Chief Scientific Adviser (OPCSA) meetings, functional committees/groups and governance structures. As well as general business support across the team to support its effective operation. The job holder will be the first point of contact to the OPCSA and must present a professional, efficient and effective manner to maintain the image and reputation of the team.  

The successful candidate would need to have the following experiences and skills: 

  • Knowledge of IT systems, the ability to pick up new system/packages quickly and keep up to date with technology as it develops/advances.  
  • Excellent analytical and organisational skills, including: the ability to plan and manage multiple work-streams and competing priorities; evaluate, analyse and swiftly summarise information from a wide variety of sources; numerate with a keen eye for detail and accuracy in written and financial reports.  
  • Ability to deal effectively with any administrative errors/problems that occur, seeking guidance where necessary to ensure the team administration process is delivered swiftly, effectively and to the required service.  
  • Experience of managing competing issues and priorities, including those escalated.  
  • Experience of providing comprehensive secretariat and business support within a large public or private sector organisation, including maintaining accurate records and preparation of relevant documentation for use within the OPCSA.

Occasional national travel may be required. Travel expenses will be paid if location allowance is not being received, or when travel falls outside of the home to work journey. NPCC will pay for overnight accommodation if required.
