The Professional Standards Department (PSD) is a collaborative unit serving Bedfordshire Police, Cambridgeshire Constabulary and Hertfordshire Constabulary.
The department plays a vital role in maintaining public confidence by promoting the highest standards of professional behaviour, investigating complaints and conduct matters, identifying organisational learning, and supporting ethical and accountable policing across all three forces.
We are seeking a motivated and highly organised Administration Assistant to join our Business Management Unit (BMU).
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a busy, customer-focused environment and takes pride in delivering complex and high-quality administrative support. The BMU is often the first point of contact for the department, making professionalism, attention to detail and excellent customer service skills essential.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a department that is central to maintaining public trust and confidence in policing. You will work alongside experienced colleagues within a supportive team environment where your contribution will directly support the delivery of professional standards services across three police forces.
About the Role
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive administrative support to the department, ensuring that information is recorded accurately and maintained in accordance with force policies, relevant legislation for complaint and conduct matters to national standards and data protection requirements.
The role involves managing correspondence, maintaining records, supporting departmental processes and assisting with the effective administration of PSD functions. There will also be a requirement to transcribe formal interviews and other recorded material, therefore experience of audio typing would be advantageous.
We are looking for someone who can work effectively under pressure, manage competing priorities and contribute positively to a supportive and professional team environment.
To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:
- Experience working in a customer service and/or administrative environment, including direct interaction with members of the public.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.
- Excellent organisational skills, a high level of accuracy, and meticulous attention to detail, with the ability to navigate complex processes and manage sensitive information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and confidently with a wide range of stakeholders.
- The ability to effectively manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain high standards of work in a fast-paced environment.
- A flexible, proactive and resilient approach, with a willingness to adapt to changing demands and support the wider team.
- A clear understanding of the importance of confidentiality, integrity and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
- Experience of working in a busy, demanding environment where discretion, accuracy and excellent customer service are essential.
Experience of audio typing or transcription work would be beneficial but is not essential.
Location and Working Pattern
- Location: Tempsford
- Hours: 37 hours per week
- Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, core office hours 09:00 to 17:00
