The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Estates & Facilities team as a Building Services Assistant. This is a permanent, full-time position working 37 hours per week.
In this role, you will work closely with estates and facilities management teams to oversee and coordinate building and servicing contractors. You will need be a proactive and highly organised individual, capable of effectively managing relationships with both new and existing external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Build strong relationships with suppliers and maintain detailed knowledge of contracts.
- Monitor contractor performance against KPIs; address issues and implement improvement plans.
- Manage contract lifecycle, including variations and approvals.
- Coordinate and maintain contractor vetting processes.
- Maintain accurate contract records, databases, and ensure compliance with standing orders.
- Support estates and facilities with reactive/planned works outside existing contracts, ensuring value for money.
- Raise and monitor purchase orders; authorise invoices for payment.
- Drive best value and continuous improvement within service contracts.
- Liaise with internal teams, stakeholders, and external partners to ensure compliant and efficient delivery.
Skills, experience and qualifications
- Knowledge of contract management
- Knowledge of building related services
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels
- Excellent IT skills including the ability to use and update a wide range of computer systems, particularly Microsoft Excel.
Additional Information
The role is predominantly fixed at HQ, however there may be the occasional requirement to travel to other policing sites. Therefore, you must hold a valid driving licence or be able to travel across the force area by other suitable means.
This is a Monday to Friday position.
Shortlisting will commence 24th June.
Interviews will take place at Portishead Headquarters on 2nd July 2026.
