Barrister/Solicitor

This is an exciting opportunity to join the busy Legal Services team at Thames Valley Police: one of the country’s biggest regional police forces.

Thames Valley Police Legal Services provide advocacy, litigation and operational policing advice to officers and staff at all levels across the Force, Counter-Terrorism Policing South East and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit.

Our work also includes providing real time daily operational policing advice including advice on Major Events such as State Visits and other events that involve the Royal Household at Windsor.

We provide legal advice on Counter-Terrorism and on economic, cybercrime and human trafficking.  This could give you the opportunity to carry out work with a national profile and interest (subject to higher levels of security vetting).

This is a rewarding role, at the cutting edge of policing, where no two days are ever the same.

You will be responsible for personally representing the Chief Constable in legal proceedings as both advocate and litigator.

The ideal candidate must be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister with rights of audience and who has a current practicing certificate and proven effectiveness in advocacy and litigation.

You will need to exhibit excellent communication skills including the ability to put complex legal matters and legislation into an accessible format.

This is a hybrid role which requires travel to Court and policing locations, but also the opportunity to work remotely for large parts of the time when physical attendance is not required.

As part of the Thames Valley Police family you will enjoy a fantastic range of benefits including 30 days annual leave per annum, pro-rata for part time (plus Bank Holidays), flexible working conditions, a wide range of lifestyle discounts, and have the option to join a local government pension scheme.
