Assistant Chief Officer - Commercial Services

Salary: Band 16 (£125,724 - £138,645 per annum)

Location: Wallsend, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne

Hours/Contract:  37 hours per week, permanent

This is a rare opportunity to join Northumbria Police’s Executive Team as Assistant Chief Officer – Commercial Services.

As a senior member of the executive leadership team, you will provide strategic leadership across the Force’s commercial, financial, and digital services, driving transformation, innovation, and value at scale in support of operational policing and public safety.

The role

As the Assistant Chief Officer Commercial Services, you will operate in a key role in the executive leadership team with direct responsibility for Commercial Services:

  • Digital Policing.
  • Finance and Resources.
  • Information Management.

You will lead, develop, direct and drive innovation for the Force’s technological, financial, and information management portfolio. Facilitate the delivery of the Force’s operational and strategic priorities to deliver public value, ensuring the statutory financial duties are met for the Force, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and identified partnerships.

What you’ll do

  • Provide clear executive leadership across the commercial services portfolio, ensuring effective delivery and performance.
  • Drive transformation and innovation across financial, digital, and information services to support operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure strong financial governance, assurance, and control, meeting all statutory obligations for the Force, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, and relevant partnerships.
  • Oversee the delivery of value for money and sustainable outcomes across a complex portfolio of services.
  • Act as executive lead for major programmes and initiatives, setting direction and managing strategic risk.
  • Influence and engage senior stakeholders internally and externally to strengthen organisational performance.
  • Promote a strong performance and accountability culture aligned to the Force’s vision and values.
  • You will be a credible and accomplished senior leader, able to operate confidently at executive level within a large, complex organisation.

What you’ll bring

  • Significant senior leadership experience in a fast-moving, complex business or public sector environment.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, with a proven ability to lead large, multi-disciplinary portfolios.
  • CCAB qualification (or equivalent experience), with substantial post-qualification leadership experience.
  • A sound understanding of statutory financial responsibilities, including Section 151 obligations.
  • A proven track record of leading change, transformation, and service improvement at scale.
  • The ability to translate organisational priorities into clear, measurable outcomes that deliver public value.
  • Strong influencing and relationship-building skills, with experience of operating at executive and partnership level.

  • Presentation and Interview – will comprise of an assessed presentation and interview with the appointment panel.
