This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.
Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.

This apprenticeship is a three-year training programme, leading to a Level 3 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair. On completion, you’ll have the opportunity to progress into a Vehicle Technician role, setting you on a clear and exciting career path.

Skills & ExperienceKey Responsibilities:
- Assist workshop staff as required to develop skills and experience, working under the guidance of a Mentor, Senior Technician, or Workshop Manager. At times, other team members may also provide supervision to support your training and development.
- Carry out a range of workshop duties as required throughout the working day.
- Attend the designated college and participate in any additional training or development activities as required.
- Maintain and complete your training portfolio and all relevant records to support your apprenticeship progression.
- Achieve the required standards and grades to progress through each stage of the apprenticeship programme.
- Ensure all records and documentation are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Work safely at all times, following industry-standard health and safety practices.
- Complete all necessary documentation promptly, including vehicle history records and IT-based systems.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and organised work environment, taking responsibility for your workspace in line with health and safety and industry best practice.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role, including tasks of a similar nature or at a lower grade, as required.
As the ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Level 4 or C (or above) GCSE English & Maths (or equivalent).
- Strong attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and a genuine interest in the motor vehicle environment.
- A reliable, trustworthy, and proactive approach, with the motivation to see tasks through to completion—both independently and as part of a team.
- A positive, professional attitude, with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.
- A commitment to delivering high standards of customer service.
- UK Driver’s license is desirable, but not essential.
But what is essential is a thirst for new technology such as ULEV which includes full electric / Hybrid and Hydrogen powered vehicles, and the desire to develop your skills to meet the future challenge.
