6432 General Case Worker

Legal Services: General Case Worker

An exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced legal setting, as part of the Legal Services Department of Gloucestershire Constabulary. Providing investigative assistance and administrative support to the team of in-house lawyers, this is a caseworker role. The work covers all litigation brought against the Chief Constable, including civil claims and employment claims. As part of a small and supportive department, you can make a real contribution towards the goal of lawful policing, since the lessons learned from litigation help shape the policies and practices that form the operational policing approach.

What will the role involve?

The primary purpose of this role is to support the in-house lawyers with research and investigation into the factual background of each litigation case involving Gloucestershire Constabulary. This will involve speaking to police officers and staff to obtain their account of events, interrogating police systems to extract contemporaneous records of events and corresponding with outside bodies, e.g. the court, to obtain related material held.

Otherwise, this role will be responsible for day-to-day administrative duties including: managing the shared mailbox; receiving and logging civil claims and requests for disclosure; tracking court deadlines; and assisting with work towards meeting responsibilities under the relevant procedural rules.

This role will work closely with the the Civil Litigation Case Worker, to provide resilience in the work of civil claims.
