- Manage and maintain SQL Server and/or Oracle databases across development, test, and mission‑critical production environments.
- Apply data modelling techniques to support system integration and performance.
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical and database issues, ensuring timely delivery to agreed service levels.
- Plan and manage database backups, recovery testing, and implementation of recovery procedures when required.
- Deploy database change scripts, support scheduled maintenance, and assist with after‑hours release activities.
- Install, configure, monitor, and maintain all existing and future database environments.
- Ensure documentation and Standard Operating Procedures remain current and accurate.
- Work collaboratively with server and third‑party teams on patching, updates, and database upgrades.
- Drive automation, refine operational processes, and maintain high standards for supportability, scalability, and system performance.
- Provide on‑call support to maintain 24/7 coverage for critical systems.
Why This Role Matters
This role is essential in ensuring that our database environments remain secure, reliable, and high‑performing—supporting critical policing services and enabling the organisation to deliver valuable, data‑driven outcomes. Your expertise will help maintain systems that are fundamental to operational effectiveness, service delivery, and public confidence. You will also play a key role in developing team capability and ensuring our database infrastructure continues to evolve in line with organisational needs.
