DBS Team Leader

The principal responsibility of the DBS Team Leader is to support the protection of children and vulnerable adults by leading a team of Vetting Officers carrying out enquiries on behalf of the Disclosure and Barring Service into the background of persons wishing to work with such groups.  

In particular to: 

  • Act as Team Leader to DBS Vetting Officers, allocating work, dealing with queries and providing assistance and guidance.
  • Undertake ‘First Pass’ review, making decisions on whether incidents classed as relevant under the QAF scheme need to be progressed to Disclosure Officers. Complete checks on First Pass review where possible.
  • Liaise with DBS and other departments regarding fingerprint requests and disputes. Maintain clear audits.
  • Undertake interrogation of a number of databases and other sources of information and intelligence in response to requests from DBS
  • Using the national Quality Assurance Framework and additional Force mechanisms, complete the process of checking to determine the suitability of the individual to undertake work with the identified vulnerable groups and, where appropriate, flagging any concerns in line with Force policy and working practices.
  • Upon receipt of requests for information from DBS in connection with continuous monitoring, to undertake further interrogation of databases outlined above

This list of duties is not restrictive or exhaustive and the post-holder may be required to carry out duties from time to time that are either commensurate with/or lower than the grade of the post.  In some posts this might include the ad-hoc provision of guidance and informal training of new colleagues.
