- S26-116 Governance and Scrutiny Officer (LC7-9)

We are looking for a committed and detail-driven Governance and Scrutiny Officer to help strengthen transparency, accountability and effective oversight across policing in support of delivery of the Police and Crime Plan.

Working within a supportive and high-performing team, you will support the continued development of robust governance processes, contribute towards meaningful scrutiny activity, and ensure that work is well-informed, evidence-based and aligned with the priorities of the Police and Crime Commissioner. 

You will be supported to use your professional curiosity to seek opportunities for enhancement and continuous improvement of the team’s output.

 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

  • Assist the Police and Crime Commissioner in ‘‘holding to account” the Chief Constable, focussing on those matters/issues of key significance to Lancashire communities.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Manage, on a day-to-day basis, the corporate governance structure and decision making framework, ensuring all necessary information is provided to the Commissioner in a timely manner to ensure statutory functions can be discharged effectively.
  2. Provide a professional administration service (including preparing agendas, reports, action lists, minutes, arranging meetings, liaising with senior officers on relevant issues) to ensure compliance with the Commissioner’s procedures and practices, and the production of high-quality governance products.
  3. Undertake appropriate post-meeting actions to ensure implementation of decisions arising from meetings serviced by the post holder or as required by the Chief Executive and ensure an appropriate forward plan for the work of the Commissioner.
  4. Ensuring formal paperwork and details of meetings are correctly uploaded on the electronic committee services software system (Modern.gov).
  5. Development and maintenance of a forward work plan to support the meeting structure and to ensure the OPCC is meeting its statutory monitoring requirements as set out within the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011.

The post holder will be also required to carry out other duties and requirements, at the same or lower responsibility level associated with the post, as may be determined from time to time to be within the general scope of the post and in response to the requirements of the Police and Crime Commissioner.

Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Please be aware there is a minimum 3 year UK residency requirement for this vetting and you must be 18 years old at the point of applying. Successful applicants will also be subject to a medical assessment.
