Join Us as a Special Constable – Make a Real Difference in Your Community
Are you ready to challenge yourself, learn new skills, and help keep Nottinghamshire safe?
We are currently recruiting Special Constables – volunteer police officers who play a vital, respected, and rewarding role on the frontline of policing.
As a Special Constable, you’ll work alongside regular officers responding to real incidents, supporting real communities, and making a real impact. From tackling crime and anti-social behaviour to engaging with residents and helping solve the issues that matter most to them, no two days are ever the same.
Bring your life experience, your people skills, and your desire to help others — and we’ll equip you with the training, confidence, and powers to police proudly and professionally.
By the end of your training, you’ll wear the same uniform as a regular officer and hold the same policing powers.
What You’ll Do
As a Special Constable, you’ll be out on the streets, part of live policing operations, and at the heart of community safety. Your role is varied, dynamic, and incredibly rewarding. You may find yourself:
Ensuring Public Safety
- Assisting at road traffic collisions, fires, and major incidents
- Helping manage crowds and ensuring public safety at major events

- Enforcing road safety laws to keep communities safe
Investigating Crime

- Supporting investigations to disrupt offenders and protect the public
Securing Justice

Training & Commitment
Your training will take place during weekends and evenings, and dates will be discussed with you at interview to ensure you can fully commit.
Attendance at all training sessions is essential. Missing any session may result in removal from the cohort.
This is an ongoing recruitment process, with new cohorts starting throughout 2026/27.
