D/Sergeant / Sergeant – Serious Collision Investigation Unit (DRAP)

The post-holder will supervise detective constables to ensure efficient and effective collision in the investigation of Fatal and Serious road collisions. Maintain the good image and values of the Force and uphold policies on Quality of Service and Equality of Service and Opportunity.

What You’ll Do

To demonstrate experience and policing skills in the management of serious and fatal road traffic collisions and carry out the role of Road Policing Lead Investigator in response to such incidents.

Sound knowledge of the Roads Policing Strategy, the ‘APP’ Road Death Investigation guidance contained within the College of Policing, the National Intelligence Model & Government casualty reduction targets is essential.

Must be able to drive team performance through commitment, enthusiasm and dedication to the role.

Able to organise effectively and assimilate information and intelligence quickly to make positive operational decisions based upon available information and evidence.

Demonstrate initiative and be capable of working with minimal supervision.

Understand and consider the needs of the officers/victims/relatives in respect of operations and investigations relating to roads policing activity, in particular in relation to road death investigations.

Ability to brief/debrief officers involved in road death investigations and other road policing incidents.

To carry out the role of Family Liaison Advisor/Coordinator for DRAP.

To carry out the role of Reviewing Officer in respect of serious and fatal road traffic collisions.

Capable of making sound, independent decisions and able to prioritise work.

Coordinate, manage and assist with the delivery of CPD to identified roles within the DRAP, including Lead Investigators and Family Liaison Officers.

Able to communicate at all levels within the organisation and participate in meetings and briefings, including CPS and partner agencies.

Ability to work co-operatively with team members and colleagues, contributing positively and constructively to the achievement of team and force goals.

Must be able to work to tight time scales, manage a large workload and prioritise areas of work.

Must have a flexible approach to tour of duty to meet the needs of the post.

Maintain the good image of the Force and uphold policies on Quality of Service and Equality of Service and Opportunity.
