Police Staff Investigation Officer (PSIO) - Operation Fearless

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and experienced investigator to join Operational Fearless as a Police Staff Investigation Officer (PSIO). 

Operation Fearless is a proactive team who function to disrupt organised crime and to reassure communities by problem solving policing. The role will require an experienced investigator who will be able to analyse and develop intelligence to create evidential opportunities for both POCA and PACE investigations. This will include receiving and submitting/developing intelligence, financial investigation, evidence gathering, handling exhibits and developing telecoms data.  

The PSIO role will include supporting a team of proactive officers and leading complex financial investigations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Deal with telephone enquiries or personal visits by members of the public or other agencies, taking responsibility to seek to resolve issues raised at the earliest opportunity.
  • Scene and evidence preservation.
  • Evidence recovery and appropriate documentation.
  • CCTV viewing and viewing logs to document this evidentially.
  • Interviews of witnesses, including significant witnesses, to a high standard and record the evidence in the complexity, detail and proportionality appropriate to a misconduct investigation.
  • Completing detailed incident reports for external stakeholders and the senior leadership team.
  • Prepare and submit clear and concise investigation reports observing the highest professional standards and ensuring evidential integrity
  • The role requires a degree of flexibility depending on operational requirements - willingness to work from various locations around the force.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential:

  • PIP level 2 trained - willing to conduct interviews/handle exhibits/CPIA disclosure/case file preparation.
  • Experience of investigating serious and organised crime, including PACE and POCA investigations.
  • Experience of leading proactive investigations and accurate record keeping.
  • Experience of financial crime with the expectation of completing NCA accreditation in financial investigation.
  • A sound understanding of police IT systems and Microsoft applications.
  • Access to PNC/LEDS.
  • An understanding of sensitive policing tactics, acting with discretion and sharing intelligence in line with intelligence handling codes.
  • Ability to analyse and prepare complex reports. 
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, maintaining clear/concise communications.
  • Ability to work as part of a wider team.
  • A sound understanding of the intelligence cycle, demonstrating experience of submission of intelligence and conversion into evidential opportunities.
  • Proven experience of using the National Decision Model (NDM) and code of ethics.
  • Proven experience of partnership working.
  • Vetted to MV and enhanced SC or willingness to be vetted to this level 
  • Willingness to complete personal safety and first aid training.
  • Full driving licence and willingness to drive a police vehicle.
     


Desirable:

  • Accredited NCA Financial Intelligence Officer. 
  • Previous experience of control room operations.
  • Access to Police National Database.
  • Access to Experian credit referencing. 
  • Experience of CDIU and digital policing tactics.
  • Experience of police search tactics.
  • Professional RIPA applicant.

Vetting: Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting and Security Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.

Medical: Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks, which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.

Hours: This is a full-time role, working a shift pattern covering earlies, lates and weekends.
