Job Title: Civilian Investigator – Public Order Crime Team (POCT) - 01
Salary: The starting salary is £45,207.75, which includes allowances totalling £3,009 allowance and a 12.5% shift allowance.
The salary is broken down as £37,510 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £40,141 Plus, a 12.5% shift allowance and a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.
Location: Lambeth
Working Pattern: This role operates on a structured four-week shift pattern. Staff will be required to work one full weekend during the four-week cycle (Tuesday-Monday). One late-shift week (2pm–10pm) per cycle to support operational demand during peak afternoon and evening periods. Subject to operational requirements, the role supports one day of home working per week, equating to around 20% remote working across the four-week cycle.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Public Order Crime Team (POCT) as a Civilian Investigator within the Metropolitan Police.
Role Summary
The Public Order Crime Team (POCT) provides investigative support to some of the most high-profile and high-risk operations in London, including major public events, large-scale demonstrations, high-risk protest activity, and significant sporting and stadium-based events. The team plays a critical role in ensuring public safety and organisational resilience by supporting the effective policing and investigative response to large-scale disorder, mass arrest situations, and serious public order offences.
As a Civilian Investigator, you will work alongside police officers and detectives to progress serious and complex investigations from first report through to conclusion. You will contribute directly to the delivery of professional investigative support into public order-related offending by gathering and managing evidence, obtaining accounts, completing key enquiries, and maintaining high-quality case files. Your work ensures that evidence is lawfully obtained, suspects are appropriately dealt with, and case files are prepared to a professional standard to support positive investigative outcomes.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge of investigative standards (PIP1 minimum) and relevant legislation relating to public order and criminal investigations.
- Ability to interview suspects and witnesses in line with legislative requirements.
- Communication skills to present evidence clearly and liaise with stakeholders.
- Organisational skills to manage large and complex caseloads.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of and experience of PIP2 investigations
- Knowledge of Case file build
- Recent operational experience
- Experience of CPIA disclosure
- Hold a current DVLA driving license and able to drive a police vehicle
