Introduction

Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) is a five-force collaboration delivering Counter Terrorism (CT) services to our regional forces as well as forming part of the national CT Network. CTPNW’s mission is to work together to keep people safe from terrorism.

We are looking for a committed and outstanding individual who can support CTPNW in achieving its mission.

Information about the specific role

Analysis in CTPNW is the study of data to identify patterns, trends and links between crimes and offenders, with the goal of aiding CTPNW in identifying perpetrators and preventing future incidents.  We also conduct strategic analysis, which is the analysis of long term and emerging trends to inform decision making and policy development. 

You would be part of a large team of Researchers and Analysts situated in the three NW hubs – GMP, Lancashire and Merseyside.  If successful, you would undertake a variety of written and visual products, both tactical and strategic in nature.  The team in which the successful candidate will be situated will not be known until the vetting process is complete.  Due to the classification of our intelligence systems, this role is office based at GMP HQ.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To produce appropriate analytical products (strategic and tactical assessments, problem and subject profiles) utilising the techniques and methodologies identified by the National Intelligence Model as a minimum standard.
  • To collect, evaluate and analyse data from various sources including crimes, incidents, intelligence, witness statements, forensic reports, communications data and financial records, with a view to identifying offenders, victims, hotspot locations, crime patterns / trends resulting in the prioritisation and direction of police resources both at a tactical and strategic level.
  • To provide analytical support and guidance to management teams in all aspects of policing, associated criminality and incident investigation at tasking and coordinating meetings, or other management meetings in respect of specified operations/investigations.
  • Where appropriate, to produce analytical products that go beyond the facts and provide added value to management teams. Products to include expert analytical opinion, inductive logic and strong, specific and valuable inferences, hypothesis and recommendations that focus on intelligence, prevention and enforcement opportunities.

All candidates who pass the papersift will be required to attend an assessment to test propensity for the role.  Only those who pass the assessment will be invited to an interview.

Friday 10th April

Interviews are scheduled for w/c 27th April.

The Assessment and Interview will be held at Lancashire Constabulary HQ, Hutton.

  • UK Nationality

You must be a UK National to work for CTPNW. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be considered. For the purposes of safeguarding national security, applicants will be required to hold or acquire the appropriate national security vetting clearance. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and therefore will not be able to perform their duties.

  • Vetting Requirements

This is a designated post under the Force Vetting Strategy and the post will therefore applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) level before taking up the post.

For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) or Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.

As at 1st April 2022, the HR Secondment Model was implemented for all posts at CTPNW.  This means that all officer and staff posts that are based in Cheshire, Cumbria, Lancashire or Merseyside, are seconded to CTPNW c/o Greater Manchester Police.

If you are successful in applying for a police staff post and are a member of police staff at a police force currently that is different to Lancashire Constabulary, you will be required to resign from your current force and take up a contract of employment with Lancashire Constabulary. You will then be seconded from Lancashire Constabulary to CTPNW c/o GMP.
