Evidential Typing Assistants prepare typed verbatim transcripts and summary records of police interviews conducted under caution; typed witness statements; and 999 emergency telephone call transcripts in support of prosecution cases that are put before the criminal courts
Applications are invited from enthusiastic individuals for the position of Evidential Typing Assistant based in the Case Management Unit at Wednesfield police station near Wolverhampton. The successful candidate will work with a dedicated team to prepare typed documents in accordance with strict deadlines.
Key responsibilities:
- To prepare typed, accurate, balanced and reliable summary records and verbatim transcripts of voluntary police interviews and interviews conducted under caution, in accordance with the Manual of Guidance for the preparation, processing and submission of case files
- To prepare typed witness statements and verbatim transcripts of 999 Emergency Telephone Calls
- To maintain accurate records and ensure the security of recorded media and associated documentation
Essential Skills:
- Ability to prepare accurate, reliable and balanced summaries of interview
- Can evidence accurate audio and copy typing experience with a typing speed in excess of 50 words per minute.
- Have good communication skills (including telephone techniques)
- Have ability to use MS Word, MS TEAMS
- Excellent keyboard skills
Desirable Skills:
Familiarity with bespoke computer systems
Previous experience summarising interviews conducted under caution would be advantageous.
