Job Title: Assistant Management Accountant

Salary: The starting salary is £40,519, which includes allowances totalling £3,009 allowance.

The salary is broken down as £37,510. basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £40,141. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

As a member of our Finance team, you’ll play a central role in delivering customer-focused, finance services. You’ll help strike the balance between rigorous financial control and a strategic, forward-looking mindset—working across our team to ensure every decision drives the business forward.

In this team, you’ll provide expert, professional advice where it matters most and reserve transactional tasks for situations with a clear business need. By adding real value at every touchpoint, you’ll empower your colleagues to focus on the highest-priority, highest-risk challenges.

You’ll be supported by Met Business Services (MBS) a new centralised service delivery model, with a focus on delivering value and efficiency across MPS. MBS will deliver standardised processes, trusted data and self-service enablement to the HR, Finance and Commercial functions, as well as service users across Met.

The Assistant Management Accountant is responsible for supporting the delivery of robust, transparent and timely financial management information and insight, including monthly management accounts, forecasts, dashboards and analysis of options to inform decision making. As a function, management accountants ensure the integrity and accuracy of data, that financial risks, issues and opportunities are captured and monitored and that a clear narrative is provided on the financial position which reflects a sound understanding of business groups and their objectives. They work closely with other finance colleagues to support the business.

Communications and Working Relationships

FBPs – close working with an emphasis on two way flow of knowledge, with management accountants providing the business intelligence to support FBPs in advising budget holders.

BPO/MBS - reviewing transactional data, preparing accruals and ensuring compliance with month end reporting.

Financial Accounting – engagement on CoA changes, analysis and insight for cashflow and treasury management and input to production of financial statements.

Key Result Areas

Assistant Management Accountants are responsible for supporting Management Accountants in reporting the financial position for business areas. They will achieve this by:

  • Ensure the integrity of transactions on financial systems, ensuring good controls and checks are in place to maintain accuracy
  • Use the management reports to provide meaningful and insightful analysis for senior managers and decision makers
  • Undertake all month end activities, including approving journals, budget profiling and accurate forecasting
  • Provide explanations for significant changes in forecast and actuals; provide updates on issues and risks to senior managers
  • Produce high quality reports and insightful management information for senior managers
  • Build collaborative relationships with other finance colleagues to support the business.

Scope for Impact

The Assistant Management Accountant will be responsible for delivering reports and insight to support the delivery of monthly management reporting.
