Within CTP Borders the Sgt’s function is to quality assure the use of Border policing powers, specifically Schedule 7 of TACT. This assurance includes the proportionate and justified use of the power, compliance with the codes of practice for selection of persons subject to examination, appropriate and lawful use of lawful engagement within published legal advice.
Once an individual has been selected for an examination under S.7 TACT, the Sgt performs the role of the review officer. The subject is required to be reviewed every two hours to ensure their welfare and that the examinations is being conducted diligently.
Similarly, officers deployed within the footprint of the airport can comes across spontaneous incidents that will require supervisory direction, for example, safeguarding, arrests, and volatile passengers.
