Salary: The starting salary is £34,808, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £31,880 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £34,108. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Economic Crime – Criminal Finance Team within Specialist Crime of the Metropolitan Police.
We are looking for accredited financial intelligence officers (FIO) to conduct financial investigations under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) to support the identification, seizing, freezing, and confiscation of criminal assets, ensuring statutory obligations are met. In addition, the role holder will provide expert evidence and case preparation for civil and criminal proceedings, contributing to the effective disruption of organised and economic crime and delivery of income to the Met Police through the Asset Recovery Incentivisation Scheme.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct financial investigations into suspected criminal activity, gathering intelligence and evidence to identify and recover criminal assets, ensuring compliance with POCA.
- Apply at magistrates court for Account Freezing orders relating to criminal investigations
- Liaise with the banking sector to secure bank account information including balances and money movement
- Assess referrals from frontline and specialist teams, deciding the most appropriate asset recovery route (e.g., cash seizure, account freezing, restraint, or confiscation) to progress each case.
- Receive and analyse financial intelligence from institutions and agencies, making evidence-based decisions on next steps within statutory timeframes.
- Prepare and submit accurate, legally compliant case files, statements, and reports to support prosecution or civil recovery, ensuring full disclosure requirements are met.
- Maintain detailed and auditable case records, ensuring transparency of decision-making and adherence to legal and organisational requirements.
- Liaise and collaborate with internal colleagues and external agencies to progress investigations, safeguard victims, and ensure effective asset recovery outcomes.
- Maintain accreditation and continuing professional development as an Accredited Financial Intelligence Officer, ensuring that knowledge, skills, and powers are applied with integrity and diligence.
Who we're looking for:
- In-depth knowledge of POCA legislation, criminal law, and the criminal justice system.
- Knowledge of criminal investigation techniques, including interviewing, disclosure, and evidence handling.
- Skilled in analysing complex financial data and drawing evidence-based conclusions.
- Strong written and oral communication skills to prepare reports, statements, and present evidence in court.
- Ability to manage and prioritise own caseload autonomously within statutory deadlines.
- Proficient in using financial investigation and analysis tools (e.g. Altia, Spidersense, Excel) and standard IT systems (Word, Excel, CRIS, COPA).
- Accredited Financial Intelligence Officer (PoCC accreditation required).
- Experience of preparing and conducting investigative interviews with suspects, witnesses, and victims.
- Experience of managing case files, disclosure, and giving evidence in court.
- Experience of applying for and executing warrants and reviewing digital downloads.
- Experience of working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders in a law enforcement or regulatory environment.
- Ongoing compliance with CPD requirements to maintain accreditation.

As you progress up the financial accreditation pathway (from FIO to financial investigator, then FI with seizure powers and then to confiscator) you will progress up the police bands. FI is band D and confiscator is band C. You can expect to reach confiscator level in 4 to 5 years.

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post; with a willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) once in post, if required.
