Lancashire Constabulary is looking for a highly organised and proactive Workshop Controller to coordinate the day-to-day operations of our vehicle maintenance workshop and support the delivery of an efficient fleet service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prioritise, issue, and monitor work throughput by direct liaison with all technical staff ensuring appropriate outputs are maintained.
- Apply and constantly maintain a vehicle off road management plan where daily reporting is embedded and communicated to key stakeholders.
- Undertake weekly team briefings to inform staff of the prioritisation required on tasks, inviting feedback on technical, safety and training matters where appropriate; ensuring senior management key strategic messages are disseminated consistently.
- Support Fleet Engineering Manager in carrying out health and safety inspections and reports. Writing and maintaining risk and COSHH assessments and performing proactive appropriate walk round safety inspections, pre-empting potential Health & Safety issues that could arise. Suitable record keeping of all health and safety related matters.
- Manage all aspects of customer liaison to ensure the highest levels of support to front line Policing and other fleet users. This to include taking direct enquiries from all fleet users in order to fully explain vehicle repair and return status.

Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a time served technician in the motor industry.
- Experience of managing and leading a team of a substantial size in a demanding operational environment.
- Experience of managing, motivating and developing staff in order to achieve business objectives.
- Demonstrable experience of implementing People Management policies and procedures.
- Ability to apply a problem-solving approach and resolve issues in creative and innovative ways.
Vetting and Medical:
Please be aware, as a condition of your appointment you must undergo and pass Recruitment Vetting (RV). Please be aware there is a minimum 3 year UK residency requirement for Recruitment vetting and you must be 18 years old at the point of applying. Successful applicants will also be subject to a medical assessment.
The successful candidate will be required to work in accordance with the attached rota.
