Lancashire Constabulary is looking for a Firearms Enquiry Officer to join our team at Hutton Headquarters
The purpose of this role is to conduct all enquiries in relation to grant, renewal and continued holding of all certificates, authorities, licences and permits regulating the lawful possession of and trade in firearms and explosives to ensure, as far as practicable, that no danger to the public safety or to the peace is allowed to exist as a result of that possession or trade. You will also support the Firearms Team Leader with all aspects of administrative work within the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish contact, visit and interview applicants and other parties interested or likely to have information relevant to the grant, variation and/or renewal of all firearm and explosives related certificates, licences and permits required by relevant legislation.
- Identify during interviews and inspections, all matters relevant to personal suitability of applicants in order to ensure preservation of public safety and the peace.
- Identify the requirement of land examination, carry out that examination within the force area and where necessary, make arrangements for the conduct of land examination in other force areas.
- Serve notices of revocation/partial revocation on certificate holders. Seize any relevant firearm, ammunition and shot guns, convey to secure storage and complete all recording processes required by current force orders as well as arranging disposal/return of such weapons at the conclusion of the incident.
- Assist in obtaining and executing any warrant required under current firearms legislative procedures. - Identify any criminal offences revealed during routine enquiries and initiate the relevant detailed reports for further action by the relevant parties.

Role requirements:
- Successfully completed the National Firearm Enquiry Officer Course or be able to complete with 12 months of appointment
- Successfully completed the Explosives Liaison Officer’s Course or be able to complete with 12 months of appointment
Vetting and Medical:
Please be aware, as a condition of your appointment you must undergo and pass Recruitment Vetting (RV. Please be aware there is a minimum 3 year UK residency requirement for Recruitment vetting and you must be 18 years old at the point of applying. Successful applicants will also be subject to a medical assessment.
Upon successful appointment as per the job specification, you will be required to provide your DNA for elimination purposes, this will be held against the Contamination Elimination Database (CED).
Please note, candidates successful at shortlisting will be required to undertake an assessment as part of the interview process. This will consist of a basic firearm identification.
