Are you looking for a meaningful way to use your spare time?
Do you want to give something back to your community and be part of something truly special?
Lancashire Constabulary is looking for people just like you.
Becoming a Special Constable is your chance to step into a unique volunteering role that makes a genuine impact. You’ll gain invaluable life skills, receive professional training, and play an important part in keeping Lancashire safe — all while growing personally and professionally.
As a Special Constable, you’ll receive full training, a uniform, out‑of‑pocket expenses, and you’ll hold the same powers and authority as regular police officers.
Training & Commitment
You’ll receive high‑quality training delivered over 11 weekends across four months (not all consecutive). A full list of training dates is attached — you must be able to attend all of them.
After your initial training, you’ll complete an additional Roads Policing weekend in your division, supported by e‑learning modules.
Once trained, you’ll join an Immediate Response or Neighbourhood Policing team and attend operational incidents alongside regular officers.
We ask for a commitment of 16 volunteer hours per month, with flexibility to fit around your lifestyle. Because training is intensive and funded by the force, we ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of 12 months of service.
Key Dates
- National Sift: 29th April - 6th May 2026
- In‑force Interviews: 19th May - 29h May (dates may change)
Following this, successful candidates will undergo a medical, physical assessment (bleep test) and vetting checks.
We’ll do our best to accommodate preferred posting locations, although this cannot always be guaranteed.
Positive Action
We are committed to building a Special Constabulary that reflects the diverse communities we serve.
Under the Equality Act 2010, we actively encourage and support individuals from under‑represented groups to apply.
