Lancashire Constabulary has an unwavering commitment to reducing, preventing, and detecting crime and are looking for an experienced, talented, dynamic, and innovative individual to join as Assistant Chief Constable supporting our Chief Constable in her national Criminal Justice Portfolio. 

The role is in Lancashire as an ACC. However, the majority of the work is in support of the National Portfolio.

Eligibility criteria to apply

  • Officers who have who previously qualified as eligible for Chief Police Officer appointment by virtue of successfully completing the senior police national assessment centre (senior PNAC) and the strategic command course (SCC) will be eligible for substantive appointment to a Chief Police Officer role
  • Police officers who have successfully completed the PLP – stage 5 (executive leaders) will be eligible for substantive appointment to a Chief Police Officer role.
  • Substantive Assistant Chief Constables looking for a sideways move to Lancashire Constabulary
  • The successful applicant must have a significant understanding and experience of CJ processes and the national change agenda and programme

The successful applicant will be based at Hutton Headquarters and will join a team of highly respected Chief Officers, and colleagues of all ranks and roles, who all strive to be the very best.

As part of this process, there will be an opportunity to attend a Familiarisation Day on Tuesday 14th April 2026 at Hutton Headquarters. This is a great opportunity to meet the Chief Officer Team and Lancashire Constabulary Staff, to see how the force operates and to find out more about our ACC CJS role.

Internal applicants must gain approval from Deputy Chief Constable Sam Mackenzie on their suitability to apply for promotion to the rank of ACC. Please find the suitability form attached above. Once signed by the DCC, this must be returned to Promotions@lancashire.police.uk, prior to applying.

All submitted applications will be shortlisted and those successful following the paper sift will be invited to undertake an internal and external Stakeholder panel on Tuesday 19th May 2026 and a face-to-face interview at Hutton Headquarters on Tuesday 26th May 2026.

Candidates will be assessed against level 3 2024 Senior Leader / Executive Competency Values Framework (CVF) throughout this process (application form and interview).
