Neighbourhood Support Volunteer (NSV)

North Yorkshire Police are currently recruiting Neighbourhood Support Volunteers (NSVs) to support local policing teams specifically around the Whitby/Ryedale Area.
NSV’s are members of the public who generously give their time to assist the police in a range of community-focused activities. Volunteers operate within their local or preferred areas, helping to provide visible support and reassurance to communities.
This is a flexible and varied role, suitable for individuals from all backgrounds, each bringing their own skills, knowledge and experience.
Purpose of the Role
The NSV role supports community safety-based activities by:
- Raising awareness of current crime trends and prevention advice.
- Engaging with local communities to help people feel safer.
- Supporting North Yorkshire Police and partner agencies in early intervention work.
This is achieved through involvement in:
- Community events and engagement opportunities.
- Operations.
- Mobile Police Van visits.
- Community Messaging System sign-ups.
- Crime prevention initiatives.
- Partnership working with other agencies.
NSVs can choose to participate in as many of these activities as they wish, depending on their availability and interests.
Additional Opportunities
We are also looking for volunteers to support with:
- Moving vehicles around
- Vehicle Checking
- Online engagement e.g social media, messaging platforms.
- Administrative support.
This is ideal for those who prefer a non-customer facing role.
In addition, once established in the role, volunteers may have the opportunity to develop into other volunteering roles, depending on their interests. These can include more specialist or project-based roles across the organisation, providing further experience and development opportunities.
Training and Support
- Full training will be provided
- Ongoing support from the Citizens in Policing Team
- Access to further volunteering opportunities
- All volunteers are fully vetted.

- Have good communication skills.
- Are interested in engaging with all communities.
- Want to play an active role in supporting safer neighbourhoods
