External Secondment – Detective Constable, National Construction & Agri Theft Team (NCATT)

A unique opportunity exists for a police officer to apply for a 2 year secondment (that may be extended) to be part of the small national team that support forces across England and Wales with investigations into construction hire fraud thefts. This officer will also act as the industry liaison.

This is a new role that supplements NCATT capability to tackle the growing threat of machinery hire fraud across the UK. Primary roles will include but not be limited to industry liaison and point of contact, supporting forces with initial investigation enquiries and package building, to on the ground recovery of equipment.  This role is national SPOC/Investigator for construction hire fraud thefts.

There is a significant and often complex investigation requirement hence the necessity for the post holder to be PIP 2 level accredited. It is essential that the officer has direct experience in the investigation of large scale OCG machinery thefts and cross border police working. An understanding of the construction hire industry and knowledge of how NCATT works with police partners such as OPAL, NaVCIS as well as manufacturers and industry groups such as the HAE and CEA is desirable.

Whilst some of the role will be able to be conducted from home or local station, there will be a requirement for national travel and significant flexibility around working hours is required to meet live operations.

Home based or from a local police office if agreeable with the home force and a car will be provided with the post. Due to demand and coverage of the current NCATT team applicants based in the South East of England would be preferred.

If you would like to find out more about the role, please contact D/Sgt Chris Piggott 07880 165526 or Head of National Rural Crime Unit Andy Huddleston 07768 065001

Any applications must be considered in line with your home force procedure on external secondments.  Support for your application should be sought from your Commander/Head of Department to ensure that there is support for your release from your home force should you be successful in the selection process.  Release would be expected to be no later than 1st January 2027.
