Introduction
Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) is a five-force collaboration delivering Counter Terrorism (CT) services to our regional forces as well as forming part of the national CT Network. CTPNWs mission is to work together to keep people safe from terrorism.
We are looking for a committed and outstanding individual who can support CTPNW in achieving its mission.
Role Purpose
This role plays a vital part in supporting national and regional Counter Terrorism (CT) policing objectives across the North Wests ports. You will ensure the region remains compliant with national requirements by delivering effective research, tasking and coordination of frontline Counter Terrorism Border Policing (CTBP) resources. Working on behalf of the Regional Senior Ports Officer, you will help ensure that operational activity is intelligence‑led, prioritised appropriately, and aligned to the wider CT mission.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Support the efficient tasking and coordination of CTBP frontline resources.
- Research, review and assess intelligence to inform operational decision‑making.
- Manage, handle and process sensitive information in line with national standards.
- Prepare clear, concise written products and briefings for officers, staff and partners.
- Facilitate the secure transfer, storage and destruction of sensitive data and materials.
- Work closely with supervisors to ensure the Control Desk function operates effectively.
- Apply an understanding of threat, harm and risk to contextualise intelligence and support tasking decisions.
- Maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail when handling large volumes of information.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
Technical and Analytical Skills
- Must have a high level of IT skills and computer literacy, including excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications, Office 365 and Intelligence Systems (PNC, Local Force IT Systems,), enabling the inputting, manipulation, review and research to be undertaken effectively and accurately. This must be demonstrated both on application and interview.
- Ability to input, manipulate and analyse data accurately and efficiently.
- Understanding of the National Intelligence Model (NIM), National Standards of Intelligence Management (NSIM), intelligence grading, and the Government Protective Marking Scheme (GPMS).
- Experience handling, researching and summarising complex intelligence material.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, meaningful intelligence summaries and reports.
- Ability to build effective working relationships at all levels, internally and externally.
- Confidence to challenge discrepancies in intelligence sensitively and professionally.
Professional Competence
- APP‑MOPI training and understanding of GPMS principles (or willingness to undertake training).
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise effectively and manage competing demands.
- Self‑motivation, initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision when required.
- Understanding of CT and DE policing priorities, including threat, harm and risk concepts.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Schedule 7 TACT 2000, Schedule 3 CTBSA 2019) is desirable.
Operational Requirements
- Willingness to undertake mandatory IT and role‑specific training, with ongoing quality monitoring and refresher training as needed.
- Ability to support secure data transfer processes and maintain accurate registers for sensitive material.
