Applications are invited from substantive external Chief Inspectors or Detective Chief Inspectors or external and internal Inspectors or Detective Inspectors seeking promotion, for several key leadership roles within North Yorkshire Police.
As a Chief Inspector, you will be able to demonstrate a breadth of experience and performance as either an Inspector or Chief Inspector across multiple different roles.
As a Chief Inspector you will:
- Lead complex operational policing, making confident, risk‑based decisions to protect the public and workforce
- Inspire and develop people, building high‑performing, inclusive teams through strong performance and wellbeing leadership
- Manage risk, demand and resources effectively, ensuring value for money and operational resilience
- Work collaboratively with partners and communities to tackle crime, vulnerability and harm
- Role‑model ethical, values‑led leadership, embedding the Code of Ethics in all decision‑making
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation, using evidence and learning to improve outcomes

Please note that it is an expectation of the rank that you are applying for that, in addition to your role, you undertake an operational command responsibility in line with our organisational requirements. Such command roles may include, but are not limited to, Tactical Firearms Command or Senior Investigating Officer functions, which include 24/7 on-call duties and ongoing professional accreditation requirements which may be tracked in your PDR. In order to undertake your command duties, it may be necessary for you to complete an external residential course, which will be discussed with you and arranged following your appointment. Reasonable adjustments and individual personal needs will be considered alongside these requirements.
